Noto School

Noto School (‘Noto-gakusha’), located at the tip of the Noto Peninsula, is a research and education facility which Kanazawa University opened in 2006, borrowing the former Kodomari Elementary School building with the help of Suzu City.

Various educational research programs based on regional collaboration have been conducted at Noto School including basic research and conservation activities of Satoyama Satoumi in Noto, exchanges between urban and rural areas and training leaders for regional development. Because of its geographic location at the tip of the Noto peninsula, Noto School plays an important role in observing the atmosphere, especially for collecting and studying yellow sand blown in from the continent.
The facility is also used as “NPO Noto Peninsula Oraccha-no Satoyama Satoumi (our Satoyama Satoumi)” to promote activities to utilize and preserve Satoyama Satoumi (landscapes and seascapes). The facility is also used as a community restaurant “Satoyama Satoumi Restaurant Henzaimon” run by the local people.

In the three-story school building are two lecture rooms, three training rooms, an exhibition room, a reception room and a kitchen. In the library is a collection of books owned by Kanazawa University. Some ten staff members are permanently stationed there, including teachers and instructors of the Noto Satoyama Satoumi Meister Training Program.
