Satoyama Satoumi Meister Training Program (Regular Course)

‘Satoyama Satoumi’ are traditional landscapes (landscapes and seascapes), sustainably controlled by human activities, such as agriculture, forestry, and fishing. Satoyama and Satoumi of Noto Peninsula was designated as GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) in 2011.

This regular program is for people under 45 who are eager to learn. We will welcome those who would like to settle in Noto region and study its nature and culture, those who would like to understand more about ‘Satoyama Satoumi’ and those who would like to make the best use of ‘Satoyama Satoumi’ for their business.

Curriculum

This regular course is a one-year curriculum of classes held every 1st and 3rd Saturday for basic subjects and practical activities.  In order to graduate from the program, Meister trainees will have to make a presentation of their graduation thesis based on their own research interest. People with various backgrounds meet and study together at Noto School once in every two weeks, commuting from Noto region, Kanazawa city, or even from Tokyo!

 

Opportunities After the Program

The Satoyama Satoumi Meister Certificate is conferred by Kanazawa University, and graduates will be:

  • able to widen their activities through the collaborative networks they have built through the program
  • leaders of community development by their improved planning, proposing and implementing skills
  • pioneers of the future of Noto with the knowledge and wisdom to make the best use of Satoyama Satoumi.

 

Benefits of Participation

  • A meister trainee will be able to build working relationships with other trainees and graduates from diverse professions and backgrounds.
  • Meister trainees can deepen and broaden their thoughts and opinions through interaction with their colleagues, and can obtain creative inspiration through the seminars and fieldwork.
  • The twice-monthly classes can be attended for one year while working full-time or part-time. The Meister graduates will receive the Satoyama Satoumi Meister Certificate issued by Kanazawa University. This certificate will be a valuable addition to the trainees’ curricula vitae.
