Voices of graduates of Noto Satoyama Meister Training Program

Mr Yukiteru Tabata

Noto Satoyama Meister Program Second-term Graduate – Farming

I used to work as the general manager of a hotel in Noto. After taking part in the Meister Program, I established an organisation with young local farmers. As my graduation thesis, I summarised my goals for continuing my life in the village where I was born and raised, surrounded by rice terraces. As a present member of the Oku Noto Rice Terrace Network Association, and in cooperation with other rice terrace areas, I have developed our organisation’s activities, such as branding the local rice and communicating with consumers.

Mr Hidetoshi Koshida

Noto Satoyama Meister Program Fourth-term Graduate – Part-time Official of Hakui City Hall
I conducted quality testing of various kinds of rice as my graduation thesis. I had access to the laboratory of Kanazawa University and learned how to qualify the rice directly from the professor. It was a great chance to have such an experience free of charge. Opportunities like these would be invaluable for those who have clear goals and would like to take a scientific approach.

Ms Naho Nakatani

Satoyama Meister Fourth-term Graduate – Food Shop “A Little House”

When I began the Meister Program, I moved from Tokyo to Noto. Through this program I have met many new people, from locals to other trainees. I had many opportunities to get a broad range of knowledge from Satoyama experts in small groups. Opportunities like these are plentiful in rural areas in Noto, which is one of the many attractive points of this Meister Program. Noto seems like a very simple place at first sight, but the more you get to know it, the more you discover many interesting aspects of local life. I would like to welcome any cheerful people to the Program.
